Is SEO dead? Not even close.
Every few years someone declares SEO dead. Panda. Mobilegeddon. Voice. Social. Now AI answers. What actually happens each time is not death, it is redistribution: attention moves, and the businesses paying attention move with it.
The mechanics that matter have been stable for two decades. Can a machine reach and understand your pages? Is there a genuine reason to show them to someone? Do other credible sources point at you? Does the experience justify the click?
AI-generated answers change the surface, not the substrate. Models are trained on and retrieve from the same open web, and they lean on the same signals of relevance and authority. Being the source that gets summarised is the new version of ranking first.
The practical shift is that thin, mid-funnel content that only existed to catch a click is finished. Content with a point of view, first-hand data, and genuine specificity is worth more than it has been in years.
